Hospital replaces old thermal boxes with scientific chambers

Hospital Vida & Saúde, in Santa Rosa, RS, dispenses the use of common thermal boxes and adopts portable scientific refrigerators for the conservation of blood and its components.

The equipment is a Smart Thermal Box Biotecno, which will be included in the routine of the Hospital Transfusion Agency. The advance in conservation quality comes from the security provided by portable scientific refrigerators compared to common thermal boxes, which do not have a refrigeration system or other technologies.

The new equipment guarantees the integrity of the stored material with a digitally controlled refrigeration system, which maintains the temperature range between 2°C and 6°C and two hours of energy autonomy. Upon detecting any risky situation, the camera automatically issues alerts. The internal environment has a homogenized temperature through a ventilation system and all storage data, such as minimum and maximum temperatures reached, are saved in memory via the Temperature Recorder. With this, it is possible to make sure that the material has been properly conserved throughout the entire period.

Biotecno Project Coordinator, Luiz Dilschneider, delivered the equipment to Dr. Lia Raquel dos Santos and André Lamarque, Maintenance Coordinator at Hospital Vida & Saúde. Recently, the Hospital was qualified as level 3 in hospital accreditation by the National Accreditation Organization. The seal considers safety criteria, integrated process management and management excellence. Only eight state institutions have this certification.

In addition to blood and its components, Biotecno portable scientific chambers are used to conserve vaccines, thermolabile drugs, organs and other thermosensitive materials. The equipment used by the hospital received the National Innovation Award in 2017 and the Entrepreneurial Innovation Award in 2016.
